The city is slowly recovering in 1948. We're now connected to Cherryton via the Cherryton 6 connection. I hear they have a ton of cherries.
The first power plant ever build was ready to explode because it had reached its 50 year limit. I just had to find out about it through a newspaper rather than Enmax themselves...
1951: After not caring about the power plant, it just blew up. Thankfully no one was hurt. Kind of hilarious too because the firestation had no power for a short period of time.
1956: With a lot of money on my hands, I had to modify the landscape so that it would have the two islands for the zoo and Prince's island. I left them out earlier because I wasn't paying attention. Also note that by the time I got all the money, I was not charging for any tax on the citizens to encourage just 10000% RCI (Residential, Commercial, Industrial) growth.
1958: I took this screenshot because it was the first accident that caused some damage on my city. I thought it was small and could be contained with one fire station and a few police stations. As you can see, that is not adequate.
1958: So Simcity freezes time when accidents happen. You can see that the entire airport is gone and the fire is jumping to other industrial areas. The next picture is the best. I even laughed.
1958: So the fire spread... a lot. Downtown was safe for the most part thanks to the river.
1958: There's my lone fireman icon. Charred land everywhere. If you can't read it, my current population is sitting at 16130.
1958: The fire has been largely contained except in the north west. The only way the SE was saved was where I had bulldozers destroying roads and buildings to prevent the fire from jumping over into the residential areas. That's another way to save your city from fires in Simcity.
1958: Simcity sends out this beautiful little news article about the fire after the last fire is put out.
1958: Population: 11710. Oops.
1960: 2 years later, calgarycity is pretty much back to what it used to be. Ignore that whole brown area.
Lesson learned.
